Benteke
From today's Times:

West Ham United are interested in signing Christian Benteke to spearhead their attack next season but Liverpool would have to contribute towards the Belgium striker’s £120,000-a-week wages.
The east London club are unlikely to be willing to offer him more than £80,000 a week, a similar figure to the amount paid to Andy Carroll, their England striker. West Ham’s other option is Michy Batshuayi, the Marseilles and Belgium striker who is also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur.
Benteke’s future is in question after starting two of Liverpool’s past 12 games as he continues to struggle to adapt to a different style of football under Jürgen Klopp, his new manager who has challenged him to find an answer to his slump in form. He was left out of the Liverpool side who beat Manchester United 2-0 in the first leg of their Europa League round-of-16 tie last Thursday.
The 25-year-old was the second most expensive signing in the club’s history at £32.5 million and was expected to provide the firepower that Liverpool have lacked since the departure of Luis Suárez to Barcelona in 2014. Benteke, however, is behind Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi in the pecking order and has been warned by Marc Wilmots, the Belgium head coach, that his place at this summer’s European Championship finals in France is not guaranteed.
West Ham plan to sign up to five players for next season as they move to the Olympic Stadium. The club will exercise an option to agree a permanent deal to sign Manuel Lanzini from Al Jazira for about £5 million and the forward is likely to agree a five-year deal. They also expect to announce a deal for Havard Nordtveit, the former Arsenal defender who will be a free agent when his contract at Borussia Mönchengladbach ends this summer.

Superb player if you play to his strengths. Would be our best striker if he was here now.

Agree with DRUID MACCA SON.

Still, one shit season - where a club fails to play to your strengths - makes you an awful player; according to the dimwit post-96 brigade.

Re: Benteke
Apparently Benteke was only five years old when Euro 96 took place.

Re: Benteke
I was looking for where it said "sources close to the brentwood gazette" said...

He is another quality striker that needs to be loved and feel like the main main. I feel he would flourish under someone like Slav.

Similar to Payet in the way that Slav would bring out the best in him.

I would say that he would be an excellent signing if we could get him.

Re: Benteke
Benteke is a good player and would suit how we play, would love him here. Would prefer Lukaku but that isn't going to happen. Him and Batshuayi and we look POTENT.

I'd offer him a trial week.

Re: Benteke
If we sign him and he fails people will still think he is a £30m plus superstar striker.

Honest opinion though is that he is a good striker who doesn't miss half the season through injury but he is overvalued.

Re: Benteke
My only concern is whether he would fit into the team. We need a hard working team player and that has been the main criticism of him this season.

He is a very good player but I'm not sure if he's the right player for us.

The mere mention of this a year ago would have set pulses racing

Good striker poorly fed and in the wrong system

Sunderland if they stay up anyone?

Re: Benteke
Iron Duke

he's lost his confidence.

You could see that when he played against us. had a good number of shots but from angles and positions that he has less chance of scoring from.

Re: Benteke
As much as I'd prefer a Lacazette or Batshuayi, this would be a superb signing still.

Don't become a bad player overnight and other than Rodgers was obviously proven to be an average manager who had no idea how to play to his strengths, I reckon the way we play would be spot on for him.
